Founder

Nathalie Ribette

Since its inception in 2006 SING’THEATRE has reflected the multicultural identity of its founder, Nathalie Ribette, who was born in France but has considered Singapore her adopted home for over 20 years.

A career chameleon

After 10 years in marketing and sales for international companies in France’s health sector, Nathalie caught the musical theatre bug after relocating to Singapore in 1996. She launched her professional career in 1998 with a turn in Starmania, a rock musical staged at the Alliance Francaise. She has been directed by Selena Tan and George Chan, has shared the stage with Singaporean household names like Kumar and Hossan Leong and has toured with W!ld Rice.

From the stage to behind the scenes

In 2002 with stage experience under her belt and a pregnancy literally under her belt (her daughter Alice), Nathalie debuted as a producer/director with a Franco-Singaporean version of Notre Dame de Paris, the musical, at the Alliance Francaise, with the encouragement and guidance of her mentors in the field. Thus began Nathalie’s artistic specialty of producing and directing musical revues blending French soul with Singaporean sensibilities. A Singaporean in Paris, sold out in 2010 and 2014, is the epitome of her creative genius.

Transmission and sharing as leitmotifs

As a teacher herself and a strong believer in the importance of performing arts as a powerful tool for boosting social skills and creativity, Nathalie launched SING’THEATRE ACADEMY in 2014, which offers classes to musical theatre lovers from all walks of life.

Music Lover

As a music lover Nathalie regularly sings professionally and knowing the healing power of music has been committed to bringing music to hospitals in Singapore for the past three years.

Awards and Recognition

Nathalie was recognized in 2007 by the American Women’s Association of Singapore (AWA) for her ā€œextraordinary effort and outstanding contributions to the arts, culture and education in Singapore.ā€ In 2010 the French Minister of Culture and Communication, Frederic Mitterrand, honored her with the award of Knight in the Order of Arts and Literature. She has also been described by TimeOut as one of the few ā€œfantastically capable foreign talents in Singapore.ā€

Mission

Performing for a better society

Our mission is to be a creative platform that uses music and theatre to help shape an inspiring future

  • by producing musical revues and shows that open social dialogues in the Singaporean community and promote multicultural interaction

  • by making music and theatre universally accessible, especially in hospitals, reaching out in particular to the most isolated and underprivileged patients

  • by empowering youth and the community as a whole by sharing our passion for performing and providing top-level musical theatre training

What we do

Shows

Sing’theatre is recognized on the Singapore scene as a musical theatre specialist. We use primarily the musical theatre genre and music to bring social conversations and personal struggles to the stage. We take current issues in society, give them a unique perspective and make them resonate with Singaporeans.
Sing’theatre has produced A Singaporean in Paris, A French Kiss in Singapore, 8 Women, La Vie En Rose, Forever Young & Souvenir.

Community Outreach

Beyond the traditional stage, Sing’Theatre is committed to bringing music to everyone thanks to its various community outreach programmes with hospitals, namely MusicalRendezVous@NUH and MusicFest@SGH. We feel it is vital to provide cultural exposure to all, stimulating creativity, active citizenship and societal cohesion.

The Academy

Sing’theatre gives theatre enthusiasts from all walks of life the opportunity to practise with and learn from professional artists through our high quality classes. Today, culture is not only recognised for its contribution to the formation of identities and a sense of belonging but also for its educational potential. As such, more than just offering technical lessons, we are exposing our students to the cultural value of musical theatre and real professional stage experience.
