FAQ

Frequency Asked Questions

Yes. To ensure every student is placed in the most appropriate learning environment, all students are required to attend a short pre-assessment before enrolment.

The session lasts approximately 15 minutes and includes:

  • One prepared musical theatre song (approximately 1–2 minutes)
  • A short acting or storytelling activity
  • Simple movement and performance exercises
  • A brief conversation with the teacher/panel

The assessment is designed to understand each student’s current abilities and potential. We are looking at confidence, communication, musicality and storytelling—not perfection.

No. Students with backgrounds in singing, drama, dance or school performances are welcome, as are enthusiastic beginners. The pre-assessment helps us understand each student’s starting point and recommend the most appropriate pathway.

Students are placed in the most appropriate LAMDA examination level following an initial assessment by our teachers. Placement is based on each student’s performance experience, confidence, technical ability and readiness, rather than age alone. This ensures every student is challenged appropriately and enjoys a positive learning experience.

No. Students are welcome to participate in the programme without taking the examination. However, we strongly encourage students to enter the examination as it provides a valuable opportunity to celebrate their progress and receive professional feedback from an external examiner.

Students are encouraged to practise their songs and performance material for approximately 15–20 minutes, three to four times a week. Regular practice helps build confidence and supports steady progress throughout the programme.

The Sing’theatre LAMDA Musical Theatre Programme is designed as a progressive pathway. As students grow in confidence and ability, they will have the opportunity to work towards higher LAMDA examination levels as these become available. Advanced LAMDA qualifications (Grades 6–8) carry UCAS Tariff points, which may contribute towards applications to universities in the UK.

At Sing’theatre, we believe musical theatre is about more than passing an examination. Students learn in a supportive and creative environment where they develop confidence, collaboration and storytelling skills through practical performance training. The LAMDA qualification is a recognised milestone within a broader journey of artistic and personal growth.
