COVID-19 Virus Outbreak – Message From Head Teacher

18 March 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

We would like to thank all of you for your patience and compliance with all the measures we have been putting in place during the current situation regarding COVID-19. We would like to reassure everyone that we are strictly following all current advice from the Ministry Of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Please take note that before coming to Sing’theatre:

  • Anyone who has been issued a Stay-Home Notice (SHN), Leave of Absence (LOA) or Quarantine Order (QO) is not allowed to come to Sing’theatre.
  • Anyone feeling unwell is not allowed to come to Sing’theatre. This includes guardians dropping off students. If possible, do take your temperatures by yourselves before attending Sing’theatre.
  • Please let us know of any travel history by emailing to academy@singtheatre.com
  • Currently, MOH guidelines state that only the person issued with the SHN/ LOA/ QO must stay at home and is not allowed to attend school.
    • For those not directly given a SHN/ LOA/ QO, they are allowed to come for class. However, we urge students to watch their health closely and if they have any symptoms, to not attend Sing’theatre classes.

Class Precautions:

  • All students must take their temperatures before entering class. If their temperature is equal to or above 38 degrees Celsius &/ they have respiratory symptoms such as cough and breathlessness, they will be refused entry to class and sent home immediately.
  • All students will now be asked to wash hands at the sink before entering the classroom.
  • All classrooms are being cleaned and disinfected regularly.
  • Props used in the show are being wiped down and disinfected between each class.
  • We have removed all physical contact games from our curriculum and are avoiding physical contact in dance routines and staging where possible.

Shows:

  • At the moment our shows are proceeding ahead as planned.
  • Audience numbers are well below the current maximum guidelines for gatherings i.e. 250 persons. We will impose temperature taking on audience members and theatre staff as well as continually disinfect the theatre in-between shows.
  • We have several contingency plans in place for different scenarios should the current advice given by the authorities change. Hopefully there is a good chance that the shows can go ahead, albeit in several different formats. We will update you on these as and when they may be necessary.

The arts is an important outlet in troubling times and is a fantastic escape for all our students to feel the comradery and joy of musical theatre. That being said, the health and well-being of our community comes first so we will continue to follow MOE & MOH guidelines strictly and we know we can count on your support to do the same. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Thank you and please take care,

TJ Taylor – Academy Headteacher & Associate Artistic Director
