What is The Showstoppers Musical Theatre Ensemble? 

Now in its 9th successful year, The Showstoppers is a musical theatre ensemble that provides a platform for adult musical theatre performers to come together as a community and stage a full-length musical. The course offers students the opportunity to experience a full rehearsal process while developing their singing, acting, and dance skills along the way.

After the success of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee last year…Sing’theatre Academy is thrilled to announce that Showstoppers will be staging the all-time favourite romantic comedy, The Wedding Singer – The Musical directed by TJ Taylor!

Students come from a variety of backgrounds, including professional performers, students, accountants, architects, teachers, mothers, and many more, all finding a home with The Showstoppers. Over the past eight years, the course has seen more than 90 students participate in The Showstoppers, with all warmly welcomed into the wider Showstoppers family. Many participants form lifelong friendships and discover new performance opportunities and connections along the way.

Our previous productions include RENT, Into the Woods, The Theory of Relativity, Once on This Island, Working: The Musical, Grease, and many more. The Showstoppers regularly participate in Sing’theatre’s community outreach events such as Singathon and MusicFest @SGH.

Several Showstoppers alumni have gone on to study at top international institutions, star in professional productions such as Miss Saigon and LKY: The Musical, and work professionally in Singapore’s vibrant musical theatre scene.

Due to the intensive nature of staging a show in a short period of time, entry to this course is by audition only. The course is best suited to those with some level of prior experience. For beginners, we highly recommend starting with our Stage Door classes, where you can build your skills and experience before auditioning for The Showstoppers.

The Wedding Singer

This year, our production will be The Wedding Singer! A lovely, fun romp about Robbie, the titular wedding singer, who goes on a journey of love, self-discovery and community after being left at the altar! He meets a young woman named Julia, who hires him to perform at her wedding. However, he falls in love with her, and shenanigans ensue as he tries to win her over before her wedding!
