SHANTEL LEOW

MARCUS CHEONG
Musical Theatre Teacher
Marcus Cheong discovered his passion for performing at age 13 when he joined his secondary school’s drama club, with whom he was cast as the lead in their entry to the Singapore Youth Festival competition. Marcus was a part of Pangdemonium’s Triple Threats Programme in 2017, which sparked his interest in musical theatre. He credits his time in the BA(Hons) Musical Theatre programme at LASALLE College of the Arts with helping him to find his voice, enabling him to approach different singing genres with finesse and confidence.
Prior to his journey in LASALLE, Marcus conducted speech and drama workshops for children and worked as a freelance performer. As a child, he had a speech impediment which made him anxious whenever he had to speak in public. It was through his experience in performance training that he was able to overcome his stutter and gain confidence as a person. This breakthrough inspired him to pursue a career in performance and teaching.
As a Musical Theatre and Drama educator, Marcus believes that every child should have access to the same transformative power he experienced as a child from his involvement in performance. He has a passion for working with children and helping them to develop their communication skills while embracing their individuality through the world of musical theatre.
Besides performing and teaching with Singtheatre, Marcus is also a freelance actor seen working with local theatre companies such as Singapore Theatre Company (TLC)’s Cat in the Hat and The Three Little Pigs and he’s part of the virtual choir vocalist for Pangdemonium’s staging of Dear Evan Hansen.
Marissa believes in the magic of music and that it can always be there for you no matter the day or weather. Ever since she was a little girl, music has always been alongside her.
She believes that musical theatre has the ability to shape a person and would like to spread that feeling across many others along her teaching journey. Having graduated with a First Class BA(Hons) in Musical Theatre at LASALLE College of The Arts, she made her professional theatre debut in Pangdemonium’s Into The Woods (2023), and most recently Sing’theatre’s Little Shop of Horrors (2024). Marissa’s love for performing has shaped her into the performer she is today and she hopes to ignite that same love of performing in all of her students.
